Heat lights and heights

Question
Hi, Tyler!  Well, the two leopard geckos our son was babysitting are now ours.  We really enjoy them.  I've tried to find conclusive info on the use of infrared lamps.  We just bought one and leave it on all the time.  Is this wrong?
Also, we put "crawling vine" around in the new tank, and Ruby seems to like climbing more than almost anything else.  My concern is that she falls a lot.  Sometimes she just sort of slides down a leaf, but sometimes plops.  She almost always immediately returns to the same place, as if she were determined to conquer a challenge.  Will this falling injure her? (Should we remove higher climbing vines?)  Thank you!!

Answer
Howdy Ellen,
Well good for you on your new pet!  I wouldn't recommend useing a heat lamp since you probably don't have a big enough tank.  I would recommend a under-tank heater which I'm sure you've heard of if you did your home work.  Now as for the lamp I'm not exactly sure when or how long you should keep it on but I wouldn't keep it on all day.  Maybe just for the day like sunrise turn it on (or when you get up because I know I don't get up at sunrise) and then turn it off at sunset.  That sounds like the most natural thing to do.  Now the vines if shes falling I would take them out because it may not be just one blow to the head but several blows to the head can jar you brain a little too much.  But at least you have a gecko with determination :-)
Hope this helps,
Tyler F.
