Question
Hello Tracie,
I currently have my leo gecko on reptile carpet, he is probably around 6 inches or so, when can i switch to sand? And what kind is best? Also everyonce and while someone has tried to pick him up, but he tries to bite, but sometime i can put my hand in and he doesnt, i want to pick him up but i am worried he will bite, does it hurt? and ideas?

Thanks Nate

Answer
Hello Nate,

I would not switch to sand for your leopard gecko actually.  They are terribly notoroious for eating the sand & becoming impacted!
How long have you had him?  I would try placing your hand in there for a few minutes a day so he gets used to it.  Each day, gradually keep your hand in there a little longer & he should get used to it.
You could also try putting a worm in his mouth when he tries to bite, to give him something to think about!
Their bites hurt a little but nothing you couldn't handle I think.  Don't let him think he is intimidating you, otherwise, he will keep doing that!

Do you have any pictures of him?
