Question
My leopard gecko has refused to eat for goig on a month now. I don't believe he is drinking that much. He has lost weight mostly in his tail. His coloring has lighten he is very pale. Also he began to shed almost a month ago and took him several weeks to shed the skin. He still has ski on his face and over his eyes. It looks like the skin has sealed his eyes shut. He also has something on his mouth that sort of looks like sad but will not come off. I read about some of the different diseases they can carry ad coccidia is the only one that sounds close. What do you think it is? And what are some possible ways to treat this issue?

Answer
Hello Katie,

What is your setup like, are you using an undertank heater & a basking lamp?
What do his stools look like, are they runny or smelly?
If you are keeping him on sand, remove the sand now & replace it with felt, non adhesive shelf liner, or paper towels.
Since he is losing weight, we need to intervene with feeding him babyfood right now.  So, try to get some chicken or turkey babyfood & feed him that with a plastic syringe or a plastic dropper by dripping it onto his nose so he will lick that off of his nose.
You can get a swab & some betadine & dilute the betadine down then dip the swab into the solution.  You can swab his mouth area to see if you can get it cleaned up.  If you soak him in warm water, that might help to get some of the retained shed off.
Do you have a moist humid hide for him to help aid in shedding?
Coccidia is a possibility or worms of some type.  Can you get a fecal done on him?
Coccidia is usually treated with Albon, roughly a 7-10 day treatment plan.  Most worm infections are treated with Panacur.
