Question
My iguana has a spot on about the middle of its right side and 2 1/2 to 3 inches tall and 3 to 3 1/2 inches wide, the rim of the wound has a few place with pus and one little open woundish area that bleeds a little every once in a whlie. It's has a rib showing. I have contacted my local veterinarian and they do not have any payment plans that are available and I offered to give them the iguana if they would just help it, they have refuse me on both accounts if there anything I can do for it. I've had it for about three months it's had the wound since then, and I haven't been able to do anything about it, and it has roughly a body length of about 1 1/2 feet to 2 feet, and a stub tail with about a 1 foot of his original tail remaining. If you need photos we can send you photos of the wound. Please help.

Answer
Hi Ashley,
It sounds like more and more vets just want their money and don't care about the animals the way it used to be..very sad.
I am providing links to finding vets that can treat reptiles and also links that you can try to help get care for your iguana.

be sure to check out all the links that are there.
As to the injury, Yes, I would like to see a picture.  It sounds like it may have been a burn.
At this point, with a rib showing I am guessing there is a severe infection that is just destroying tissue.
You can give the iguana soaks in warm water that has been diluted with Betadine.  You can also make a spray of the diluted betadine.  You want the mix to be about the color of weak tea.
Silvadine ointment would be the best to use. Until you find a vet if you don't have silvadine ointment, you can use Neosporin ointment.
Hopefully you can find a vet that will work with you and prescribe an oral antibiotic plus the other needed medications to treat your iguana. Burns(if it is a burn) do take a very long time to heal even with proper treatment.  There has to be a vet somewhere out there that is willing to work with you on getting treatment for your ig.
