Question
Hi there my friend thought her staffie bitch was pregnant due to symptoms that she was having she would now be full term she had her scanned last week and told that it might be a false pregnancy as they could not see much it was not a vet it was a independent lady who done the scan!! Yesterday her temp dropped and today she has lost a mucus like substance she is off her food and sleeping alot she is full with milk they also said it could be one pup that is to big to see on the scan is this right? Also would she have all these symptoms if it was a false pregnancy? She has done alot of research and cant seem to come up with the answers she has spoken to the vet on the phone and they said just wait all the time she is ok in herself she is not adopting teddies or anything like that but has shredded the paper which is in her cage!! Please help!!!!

Answer
Hi Nina

What kind of "scan" did she do?  If they did a ultra sound or a x-ray, even one pup would be visible.

The problem with false pregnancies are that they have all the same signs and symptoms but without the end result.

Did she gain much weight or size in the chest and stomach area?  I've found that with false pregnancies, the female will have the signs until about day 50 then go back to normal.  Is she past that day?
