Mini schnauzer breeding age

Question
I was wondering the reason people wait till the second heat to breed their dogs.  Is it due to the age or is there a more technical or medical reason?  My mini is 8 months and I believe is going into heat very soon.

Answer
Hi Janice,

It's a matter of ethics.  A female bred too early is not developed mentally or physically.  Breed a female to young and she can reject the litter, not be mentally capable or able to care for a litter, have problems in whelp. Also,  you have a great chance of losing the dam and litter.

It's also about genetic flaws.  Breed to young and you may be adding to the problem of unhealthy pups.
