Pet Groomer

Question
Hi!  I live in Norther KY and I am looking for a job to work out of my home (something I can do so that I can be a stay-at-home mom).  I love dogs and I have a knack for handling them.  I think working with them will give me the job I would enjoy.  I have no idea what it takes to be a dog groomer but I am willing to learn everything!  Do you have to be certified, how can I find out about the different cuts and such, do you need some sort of license, and what about insurance (is there something available in case of a nonforseeable accident)?
Thanks!
Lauren

Answer
It is a great job to have if you love pets, you do need to be thoroughly trained though.  You could either go to a school or apprentice under an experienced groomer.  I don't think you could teach yourself to do quality grooms.  I went through a corporation so I worked for them before learning.  There is a great grooming school in Kentucky. This is their website http://www.nashacademy.com/index.html .I don't work out of home but I'm sure insurance would be necessary in case of and accidents.  You do not have to be licensed but without any experience it would be hard finding someone to let you groom their dog, your best bet is the school.  Good luck.
