Question
dog skin after shaved
dog skin after shaved
Succinctly put: Dog groomed - 3 days later red rash covering her. NO ITCHINESS, Licking or Chewing - dog not bothered. Took to vet, vet shaved areas, gave pred, Ceph and medicated shampoo. Vet dx'ed "pollem allergy' tho, no symptoms from dog. Fungal results normal and no mites, fleas or parasites. Think from groomer - either reaction from shampoo or groomers tools dull or caused razor burn. Neither vet or groomer will give me answer when asked. Pls help with advise - at wit's end! Thank You,Melinda

Answer
Jeeze Melinda- That looks like a staph infection to me. - what breed dog is that ? How often do you have her groomed? Is this a new groomer? Could you see the rash before the vet shaved her?

All dogs have staph on their skin but to have it blow up like that could be from a vigorous brushing and combing also. Never happen before? Staph can be from tools or open wound. Shampoo is a possible carrier if skin is already irritated. Poor baby.

I would not be so quick to accuse anyone because of the natural bacteria on the skin- does your dog play with other dogs? Is she loose in your yard where she could roll in something?
Is she hypothyroid with a weakened immune system? All sorts of things can bring a blow up on but antibiotics are the quick fix. Frequent bathing while she is healing. Tea tree oil is a good shampoo- not oatmeal!

Google pictures of staph on dogs and you'll see what I am talking about. That is definitely staph.
Good luck clearing it up- should not take too long.
