Question
I have a pit mix and he has a white coat.  You can see black spots under is coat & on his belly.  Im sure thats just his coat.  My question is, he is very sensitave when we pet him, his collar etc.  If we pet him is scratches, he scratches where his collar is.  I heard that white dogs are more sensitive.  IS that true? What can I do, is there something in particular I should be bathing him with? I dont know what to do.  I feel bad for him that hes itching all the time.  If there's anything you can tell me that would be great.  Thank You!!!

Answer
HI
you say you can see black spots on your white dog. It is probably his skin, many white dogs started out with polka dot skin, nothing cuter than a spotted pup, right?!
He may be more spotted when he is wet.  It is nothing unusual.
If he is itching all the time, I would try an oatmeal based shampoo, with no dye, soap free, hypo allergenic. These are easier to find than you would think, most any pet store has them.
Also, you may try to give him benadryl. Call the vet and tell them how much your pet weighs and ask the dosage. It won't hurt him and if it helps GREAT, if not, it was an easy try.
White dogs are only more sensitive to the sun, most generally.  They will sunburn.  That should not be the cause of the itching.

Do try the hypoallergenic shampoo and the benedryl. Good luck,
