Question
I recently had my Australian Shepherd "de-shed"at the groomers and love the results, but 2 people said its no goodfor the dog, need their undercoat to stay cool in the summer . What do you think ?

Answer
Hello Kathleen!
De-shedding is usually a proccess which involves a really good brush out, a really good bath, a really good blowdrying to blow that loose hair out, and then again some more brushing with special tools to get all that hair out. That is NOT bad for your dog. There will always be undercoat on the dog to help them control their body temperature. In the winter, the dog will produce more undercoat to help stay warmer, but then in the summer, all that hair needs to come out. So, instead of having it fall off all over your house, you take the dog to the groomers, to get it all done in one day! It is really beneficial to your dog because if you left all that loose undercoat on your dog, they will over heat. The reason it is loose is because they are trying to get rid of it. Did that help you? I hope so!
