shaved westie

Question
I just had my year old westie groomed yesterday for the first time. He was getting pretty shaggy...and although his coat looked really good, I thought he should have it cut for the summer. The groomer asked if I wanted the "westie cut"...I told her I did, but without the skirt. When I went to pick up my westie he was shaved! I didn't think westies were supposed to be cut so short...so I was pretty surprised. I like him much better with more hair on him. It will grow back right? I read somewhere that sometimes if they are shaved, the hair doesn't grow back (atleast not like it was before). Let me know...I barely even recognize my own dog!

Answer
I am sorry you do not like your westies trim. Is he REALLY SHAVED?! Shaved is like a man shaving his face, there is NO hair!  Or his he clipped really short? Run your hand backwards over his back and see how much sticks up.  maybe if it sticks up a bit you won't feel so sad that he is pretty short.
that said, his hair will grow back quickly.  Do not worry about that, Westies hair grows year round, unlike collies and such, so do not despair. He will look lots better in about 2 or 3 weeks.
I would call the groomer and ask them if they write down the blade they used on your dog, and that the next time, could he be left alittle longer?  Tell them you just wanted to call while it was fresh in their minds.  Do not scold the groomer, as one persons "short" is another persons "long" and unless you picked up a piece of his hair and said
"this long" then the groomer probably did what they honestly THOUGHT you wanted.
If you decide to try another groomer, it would still be good to call this one and ask what blade they used, so you can tell the next groomer that the blade number they used at this place was too short.

At any rate, tell your dog he looks cute and he will believe you, and til he grows out, enjoy his easy care haircut, it'll soon be fluffy again!
