Pomerainian cut short due to fleas

Question
My friend has a Pomeranian but lives in a complex that is full of dogs and so many fleas.  Can he give his dog a short haircut (like 1" or so) as I am sure it will grow back or what can we do to get to the bottom of the flea problem.  Because of his dog's long hair it is hard to keep them off my shorter haired dogs.  We have used Frontline, a flea collar and flea shampoo plus he did get a pill from the vet but because of the long hair and under coat the fleas are still there.

Answer
Wanda,
sorry to say but you risk losing the coat if you take it down like that. It does not always grow back and can look really motheaten. Forever.
Best thing to do is bathe it in real soap which kills the fleas. Bomb the house at least TWICE and all bedding washed. Avoid high dog traffic areas. Wash every week with a good soap. Dimatious earth sucks the moisture from the flea skeleton and kills the fleas that way. Best non toxic solution. Beneficial nematodes spread in the yard are brilliant...
Look into Revelolution- much more effective in warm climates were there is no frost
If you are already having a problem you likely live south.
Keep the dog indoors on rainy days.
My best advice is to MOVE!
sorry it's a never ending battle once it starts.
Wish I could offer more help but been there before and nothing short of professional extermination works when you are under seige
good luck
