Irish Terrier Hand stripping

Question
Hi there,
We have recently moved from the UK to Singapore with our 4 year old Irish Terrier. We had her stripped a week before we came here. When we had been here for 4 months we found a groomer on the other side of the city who could strip her. She was stripped quite severely and a couple of weeks later developed black spots on her skin which have had to be treated with medicated shampoo and antibiotics.
I wanted to find out how often and if it is absolutely necessary for our dog to be hand stripped for this climate?
It takes almost 6 hours out of my day to take her and is also ludicrously expensive, to the point where I really cannot justify the expense ( I would rather donate some of the money to charity), even though we can afford it. THe groomer has also said that ideally she should be done every 2 months. As well as what happened to her following her last appointment, I am just trying to see if there are any other suitable options.
Any advice would be really helpful.
THanks.

Answer
Oh Dear Samantha,
this sounds all wrong to me. There is NO reason your dog should have had this reaction other than bad hygiene. I have groomed many Irish and never had this problems. I groom them all every 6- 12 weeks. Whoever did this to your dog is of the old school. Pets should not be stripped to the skin. Irish are so easy to pluck and keep the coat rolled without doing that damage. I insist my clients bathe their dogs 24-48 hours at least before I see them - I don't buy into it has to be a dirty coat to pull easy. What does happen is staph infections if you don't- which is what it sounds like happened to you dog.
Not bathing your terrier is nonsense. If your pet lives in your house minimum monthly baths help to keep staph off.
Let this grow out. Get yourself a Mars Coat King from a catalogue and start to use it as the coat begins to grow out.
Take a more hands on approach until you find someone closer to home. Look for professional dog handlers/kennels or breeders who take on pet trade between shows.
sorry you got someone who only had their own interest at heart instead of your dog's.
