Question
Hello,
Please advise on how often a german shepherd should be bathed.  I  was thinking once a month.
Thank you.

Answer
Hi Paola,
I agree. It is important wash AND dry these guys- especially because they shed so darn much. You can help keep the hair balls from rolling around the house with frequent brushing but if you bathe them it is extremely important to hand dry them- especially if you have them done at a salon where they tend to cage dry large dogs likes these. An HV blow dryer- (High Volume air) will push out all the loose and dead hair so that it doesn't end up falling out in you house after you take them home. Brushing and blow drying at the same time will help get rid of all the loose stuff before you come home. Blow drying these coated breeds at home can get messy so do it outside if you can. The wild animals appreciate the hair and fur to line their nests.
There are several tools for shedding out these kinds of coats but be careful- some are dangerous and can damage skin and hair
Always dilute your shampoo and if some gets in the eye don't panic just flush with lots of clear water. Clean the ears with an ear wash before you bathe so the bath can help get rid of any debris the dog shakes out.

best of luck
Beth
