using clippers on Yorki

Question
I have a two year old yorki, and new clippers.  Going with the grain of growth, the clippers just slide over her silky hair.  Going against the grain seems logical to me, but I haven't tried that yet.  I've watched a few videos, but I can't get it to work for me with the grain.

Hi Linda,
You didn't say what kid of clipper or # blade you are using. Or how long you want your dogs hair. If you go against the grain as a novice, you will have a very choppy looking cut at best and at worst you may really injure you dog. They have thin skin and the blade will slice right through it.
