cleaning poodle gland

we have decided to trim our poodle ourselves because of cuts,burns and ear infections given to him by groomers-
we do not know how to expell his gland in the rectum- can you tell us how to do it or should we take him to the vet.

I'm sorry you've had so many bad experiences.  The gland can be difficult but you should be able to do it after you get the hang of it. Hold your dog with his tail up.  On each side of the lower part of the rectum you'll feel two hard pea sized spots.  Press in and squeeze at the same time.  It can be difficult, takes some practice.  If you can't visualize what I'm trying to explain you could always get a groomer or vet to show you how they do it.  If I can be of anymore help please let me know.
