Question
My mom wants to shave our two austrailian sheperd's and i don't think it's such a good idea. I know that they adapt to the weather, but we have cat's and they get into fight's with them. They also go out into the woods that is right next to our house. They get burs, and outher stuff that gets them dirty and a bunch of suff in their fur. I don't know if we should shave them, but i have a really bad feeling about it.
Thanks,
Liz

Answer
Hi Liz,

In my opinion Aussie's could really use the soft light undercoat that they grow in the spring/summer. Shaving them would take that away. This undercoat actually makes them cool and protects from sunburn. If you have a decent groomer and the coat is not a mess I would ask to cut them down to about 1 inch or so. This will leave enough of the undercoat and yet have a nice short cut so you can find ticks burrs etc.I hope this helps. Thank you.

Gail

PS It looks pretty cute too!!!
