poodle hair and grooming

Question
my 1 year old white poodle has soft, soft, soft, fluffy, curly fur which is prone to mats any and everywhere. She goes to the groomer every 4-6 weeks, but in between I don't know how to keep up with her mats. I seem to have the best outcome when I comb her with a stainless steel comb. Any suggestions? Thank-you.

Answer
you may want to have them clip her shorter so that she does not have so much hair- easier for everybody - mostly for the dog so there is not so much dematting.
If you put sweaters on or a harness these can be the culprits also. Webbed fabric collars also cause neck and ear matts. Bathing or getting caught in the rain in between and not fully brushing out is another cause.
Soft hair use a Doggie Man brand slicker- softer and gentler on the skin. Coarser and wirey hair use a Universal- you sound like Doggie Man tho. Continue using that metal comb AFTER you brush to show the areas still in need of carding. Put your finger between the skin and the knot brushing the knot out over your fingers. Comb again. Repeat as many times as necessary.
Doing this in between on that kind of schedule - 4 weeks should be fine- even 6 if you use a #4 blade all over.
Ear matts can be caused by ear infections and scratching the ears.
hope this was helpful!
