Welsh Terrier groom

Question
Hello ElizaBeth,

I'm going to groom a Welsh Terrier tomorrow, and I keep reading conflicting info on the head (she'll be pet clippered.)  Should I leave hair between the eyes and on the topline of the muzzle, or create a more severe distinction between the eyebrows ("V" shape scissoring to create the two triangle brows.) and neaten up the muzzle.

Thank you!

Clea

Answer
There is no conflict in regards to the correct pattern- if you look at a show dog you will see that the stop between the eyes and top of muzzle has hair in there unlike the frond of a Lakie or the scooped out look of a wire fox.
That being said it is only practical to do that if the dog comes on a regular/frequent basis. Otherwise 6 weeks down the road the hair has grown out to look like Groucho Marx.
Explain this to the client and ask them to chose. You will sound knowledgeable and the client will be responsible for the look a month down the road.
Any dog looks good when all clean and fluffy, it's down the road how the haircut holds up, is my judgement of a quality groom. That is your best advertisement.
Good luck!
