Question
I had our 9 mo old male cocker shaved by a professinal groomer, down to about 1/8" from the skin.  My wife is horrifed at the way he looks now!  HOw long will it take for the buff coat to grow back full again?

Answer
hello Kevin!
It shouldnt take too long for the hair to grow back. Cockers typically have really thick hair that does seem to grow incredibly fast, so your pup should be looking normal soon again. I can not give an estimated time because all dogs hair grows at different rates. Cockers do not have an undercoat so there will be no damage done to the hair. Sometimes shaving a dog down at about 9 months or so can be beneficial too, because it gets rid of the puppy coat and allows for just the adult coat to come in. It can be very hard to maintain a pups coat when they are losing their puppy fur and gaining the adult coat, especially on Cocker Spaniels since their coat is naturally very thick!
