Question
My friends dog got loose and got tar on its hair. How should she remove it? and I read that this is bad for the animal, if they chew or eat it. Please advise. Thank you

Answer
The best thing you can do is soak it with olive oil or peanut butter. The oils in both will penetrate the tar and break it up. Use a flea comb (comb with very fine teeth) to remove the debris. You may have to work in several layers. Don't be surprised, however, if the tar that has adhered to the skin leaves bald spots. It can weaken the hair follicle to the point that it will take the hair with it during treatment. Dog's hair grows back 10x faster than human hair, so don't be afraid to cut it away if it on longer coat.
