Peekineese Grooming

Question
I have been told to shave my year and half Peek "Gizzmo", because he will be too hot in the summer. I love my little guy and his fur and his eyes are so unique, I would not wan't to make this decision without asking an expert. If it's not nessessary to his well being I would choose not to. What do you think?

I can't think of a reason to shave your Pekingese. Since Peeks have a short nose, they can have difficulty breathing and they can overheat easily. If you are a prudent owner and you make sure Gizzmo does not overheat on warm days, he should be fine in his full double coat, which will actually help insulate him from heat.

Make sure to brush and comb him frequently as the fur's insulation will not work properly if it is unkempt.
