QuestionI have an English Golden Retriever, mostly white, just bought some new Andis clippers and would like to know if you have a video on how to show using them to trim a Golden's feathers etc. Thank you, Ron
AnswerHi Greg
If you are going to use a clipper on the feathers what you really need is a snap on blade that controls the amount you cut, like a beard trimmer. I would get the longest snap on available. I would use - #0 or #1
I don't know of a video because most groomers scissor feathers with thinning shears. Bathe and Comb out the feathers first make sure they are knot free then start from underneath at the bottom and work your way up to the tail. I am assuming yours is thickly furnished if you want to resort to clipping them all off but it sort of takes away from the look and they grow back bushier than ever.
The better way is to get a pair of chunkers- as they are called- and thin them out. You have more control over the length and it looks more natural.
I was looking at what is on You tube and Jodi Murphy or Lisa Leady are really good.
Look up How to groom golden retriever with thinning shears on YouTube - a lot of info comes up with those 2 at the top.
Good luck and more importantly have fun and make it a good experience for your dog.
