Question
What's the best way to camo an ear that's been frost bitten? Its like a very short crop on only one side. Its a black yorkie poo. Its awesome yur doing this I hope this helps!

Answer
Poor baby!  That must of really hurt at the time. I'm so glad the yorkie poo is okay with only a cosmetic blemish.

How the ear is disguised depends on how your dog holds it's ears.  These are options I can envision doing:

If your pet holds the ear folded over I would suggest growing the ears out long.  You can keep them bobbed off at a few inches long also.  If part of the base of the ear is missing your groomer might be able to create a "fake" base by leaving the hair to grow where the ear base would naturally be.  I did a little poodle named Van Gogh and he was missing one complete ear!  I followed the line of what would of been the natural base of the missing ear and grew a fake ear out of hair.  It didn't lay exactly the same as the opposite ear but  few dogs are born perfectly symmetrical.

If the pet has a prick (upright) ear, disguising it is trickier.  If only a little bit is missing your groomer may be able to leave enough hair to scissoring in a more natural line.  Molly the Scotty had a chunk bitten off the top of her ear by her very naughty brother.  Because her hair is very coarse and stand off of the ear a bit, I am able to refashion a new tip that matches up to her good ear.  Unfortunately gravity often wins out when you try to refashion hair to disguise an ear abnormality and the hair falls backwards towards the head.  If you really want shaved ears and your pet's ear hair won't stand up, you can use a good quality hair gel to aid it along.  Tigi makes a line of "Bedhead" products for pets that work well and are fairly durable.  You'll probably have to "restyle" the area every few days to maintain the look.  Your other option is to grow the ear hair out on both sides, following the same process as you would for the folded ear.  A lot of dogs look super cute with ears that stand up and out from the head and are covered with long hair.  Look at a picture of a Skye Terrier to see what that might look like. Some of my favorites dogs have one upright and one folded ear.  It's the little quirks of nature that give your pet it's own unique look.

Whatever you and your groomer decide to do, I'm sure you will love it.  I'm imagining that your pup is absolutely adorable!

I hope this answered your question.  Give your dog a little smooch from me.
