Question
I have a 16 yr old Sharpai, I bathe her 1 time a week. Two days after bathing her she smells awfull. What else can I use on her.

Answer
Well Yvonne,
there is not much you can do about the problem at this late stage. It most likely has to do do with the diet and age of your dog. You can try using a degreaser shampoo or Palmolive dish soap but frankly I don't think it will do much. You can use a talcum powder in the folds as long as she is really dry after her bath.
Age is naturally decomposing so make her comfortable and try talking with your vet too.
Sorry I can 't be more helpful

Actually I should not have answered you at all... this is not a grooming question. My fault.

I did not say your dog was in-firmed but older- well over 100 in dog years in fact. If you want to try changing diet at this point -which is probably the culprit- you should go for that- but not a grooming answer. I have done over 30,000 groomings- from birth to death. It happens all the time. Age is a naturally decomposing fact of life- eyes, ears, skin, digestion, etc.
Baking soda in a rinse will not break down the keratin that build up on the skin that can only be removed by degreaser/medicated shampoo and scrubbing with a follicular brush such as a nail brush. More than once a week until they are completely removed and showing no signs of returning. Mostly these are in the folds of the skin and feet. Which is why use of talc in folds can be helpful to keep it dry.
This is a dermatological/health issue so groomers are not qualified by law to give answers on this subject - I feel that your rating of my answer is unjustified for that reason alone but to just want affirmation of another answer that seems so much easier doubles my feeling. This is a medical question not a grooming question.
If you are so sensitive by about the reality of your dog's age you will not be open to the true cause of the problem.
good luck
