Pomeranian coat

Question
My Pomeranian shed her undercoat in Aug. /Sept.  She has her guard hair,or top coat, but her undercoat (fluffy) hair is not coming back.  She turned 1 year old Nov 2nd and was spayed at 7 months old. Will she ever be fluffy again? I changed her diet as she seemed to be itchy with a possible food allergy, per her vets advice.

Answer
Hi Bonnie,
I have several Pom clients of all different textures and it takes a while for a pom coat to mature so give it some time. Some Poms have very little fluff and some are nothing but... did you meet the parents?  Coat is a direct correlation of what you feed the dog as well so do your homework and check out the better brands. Even then there may some things you dog won't tolerate and the best way to deal with that is to limit the variety of things your dog eats until you can evaluate just that. You can't figure it out if you give her all kinds of treats because they are food too. Have one food, one treat and stick to them for 40 days- if you have no reactions it's a safe bet.
Best to work with your vet on this because coat loss is more of a medical problem.
Once you work these issues out come back to talk about grooming.
good luck.
