Non-Shedding Dog Breeds

Question
I'm looking to buy a medium sized non-shedding dog. What breeds should I be looking at?

Answer
Amanda, All breeds with coat or fur shed. That is natures way of keeping the dogs cool in the summer months. Short coat dogs shed to a certain degree. We just don't see it hanging off the furniture or carpet as much.
The only breed of dogs that do not shed coat are poodles, maltese and Bishon Frise. They have hair not coat. Although there is some hair loss with the breeds, they are known for their allergy free hair.
There is also a new cross-bred dog the labadoodle, a cross between standard poodle and a Labrador retriever. They are said not shed because of the poodle background. I do not know this to be a fact, this is a new designer breed like the puggle which is a cross between a beagle and a Chinese pug.
Better to ask your veterinarian for any recommendations regarding these breeds.
I myself am partial to the standard poodle. The size is perfect for inside and outside. Their manners are impeccable for the home or park. They are wonderful companion dogs as well very protective and loyal. Males are the more loyal of the sexes but both are special family members. They do have hair loss but hey, so do us humans.
Good luck and take your time choosing a new puppy. Also check out the rescue programs. There are many loving dogs that need homes. Some are given up simply do to family members going overseas for military jobs. There are rescue programs for most of the pure breeds. Check the web for a program in your area. And here's the best part sometimes they deliver the dog! Hope I've been of some help. Thanks for writing.
