Question
QUESTION: I am getting a Havanese puppy and I would like to groom her myself.  I have never done this before.  I have an Oster clipper but wondered what size blades and detachable combs I should use.  I would like to keep her in a "puppy cut".  I think I would like her hair to be about 2" long so that she will look shaggy but not unkept.  Thanks for any help you can offer.

ANSWER: Hello Judy.
you will need a #40 blade to go on your oster clippers, and you can buy a set of guard combs, with several different sizes and just try the longest first and keep going a bit shorter to the desired length. If you buy the set, then if you decide you want to go shorter in summer or before a camping trip or something, then you have all the different sizes you will need. If you just want to buy one guard comb, I would buy a 1 1/4 inch guard comb. It will leave it longer than that (about 2 inches) but I still find that too long sometimes to maintain.
Good Luck!!

QUESTION: Thank you. You're answer was very helpful.  Do you know of any good books or videos on grooming that would be helpful?

Answer
Hello!
Glad I could help you!!

As far as a book or video, I do not know of any, unless you are looking to start a dog grooming business and start grooming several different breeds.
Dog grooming for dummies covers the basics for dog grooming, that is a good book. That is really the only one I could reccomend for your circumstances!
