Trimming my labs nails

Question

Bogie Bogie is a 10-year-old lab mix,currently taking Metacam for arthritis & PNB for seizures. I've been trimming her nails since she got us at 6 mos. but recently she runs from me and jerks away and I feel so sorry for her. I am using the same type trimmer I've always used her whole life- the guilotine type. What can I do? THANKS!

I have switched over to using a Dremal for dogs who have developed the habit you are describing. Your dog is a perfect candidate. Those cheap things with the box on the end you see all over the infomercials are not the same as a Dremal. You need real power for those thick nails but the other brand does have a how to video. Some dogs take to it readily some don't- just takes a bit of practice. Use treats and lots of affection to get him used to it. I would recommend that as an option.
