chihuahua long coat

I recently adopted a 2 year old long coat chihuahua.  I took him to my groomer for a bath and a nail trim and they shaved all his long fur off.  I did not want this and wonder if and when it will grow back. Thanks.

Yes Erin your dogs coat will grow back. It make take a year to fully regain the loss of all hair. Although there are several things that you as a responsible pet owner can do to ensure that the hair grows back beautiful. Water is a natural hair tonic. Clean the coat monthly with a good pet shampoo and conditioner. Brush regularly to stimulate hair follicles. Make sure the skin if free of any pests, ie,. fleas and ticks. You will start seeing hair growth pretty quickly. In some cases cutting off hair makes it thicker. Hope for the best.
Remember not to bath too often do to natural oils being lost. Be sure to clips nails on the small breeds. Pretty feet are a must. Nails that grow too long can damage the pads on the bottom of foot.
