tree sap and pine needles in paw pads

Question
My dog love to be outside under our pine tree to stalk squirrels.  She has a small pine needle embedded within some sap between the pads of her front paws.  I've tried several times and ways to get it out, bet she is starting to get spooked when I go near it.  I dont' think the pine needle is poking into her, just stuck sideways between the big pad and the smaller ones?  Any suggestions for loosening the sap and getting this out?  thanks so much

Answer
OUCH ELAINE,
This happens alot and of course it is poking the tender foot when she's walking - maybe you should go to the vets and have it looked at but there is a way to remove the sap safely. Any kind of oil will help dissolve the sap- olive, mineral, peanut butter even. But you will have to massage the oil into it and if the pine needle is there it will be uncomfortable. Put her on her leash and tie her up short some where you can work on this to keep her from going berserk. If you can't, then get her to the vet and let them shave it out.
good luck
