Poodle/Shih Tzu mixed hair type?

I have a new Shi-Poo puppy, 4 months old. When I bought him he was a fur ball with two brown spots on his sides that were very short. The woman said she started to give him a hair cut but it looked bad so she stopped. I had him groomed at our regular groomer who said these spots should be white (like the rest of him which is curly white hair with an apricot tinge) and that it was caused by him scratching those areas so much. The hair is smoother, and we are wondering, could he actually have two different types of hair on one body????

Hi Rox,
Did you have your new pup examined by a vet when you brought him home? You should have had him checked out IMMEDIATELY upon arriving home. Any body who is breeding dogs and does not know how to groom them is extremely suspect in my professional opinion.
Why would you even buy the dog if she said it looked "so bad"? What does that mean? Why is a four month old dog scratching himself raw??? Ringworm? or worse?
While there can be differences in textures- this sounds like a vet question, not a grooming one.
Sorry I can't be of more help but this sounds medical to me.
