Bathing a Lab

Question
I was told that the top mobile groomer in Venice Beach recommended that I bath my black lab daily. I dont think this is correct, please advise.

Answer
I agree with you, I don't' think bathing your lab every day is correct!
Unless your dog is getting into sand, sawdust, fine dirt, or has a skin problem, or is swimming every day, bathing everyday is just not necessary.
If he is getting into the aforementioned conditions, I would suggest rinsing rather than bathing, but a mild or conditioning natural shampoo, well diluted, and poured over your wet dog and rinsed would not hurt.
The only other reason I can see to bathe your dog daily would be a veterinary condition.

If bathing is recommended due to owner allergies, there are products on the market to put on your dog to help with that, rather than bathing the dog daily.  In addition, for shedding, clipping the dog to a shorter length would alleviate much of the shed hair on carpets or furnishings.

Bathing any dog daily seems excessive to me, and I think that the dogs would agree!

Thanks and good luck,
Lori
