dog aggression

when i try to pick him up he growls i cant even groom him....he is a maltese x shitzu. its almost like he is angry.  He is healthy but not desexed...and has mum and and daughter living with us.....he growls alot when i or my partner cuddle him....like he is jealous....wht i do is growl softly back at him or blow in his face he then stops....The rest have been desexed  ...would this help he is 1 1/2

This is a grooming forum Debbie. You need a behaviorist.
I strongly suggest you have him neutered- or desexed as you say Downunder.  He would probably be much more manageble at a grooming salon without you around under the control of people who are professionals. Dogs respect authority when properly and professionally administered.  You don't say how old this dog is.
I would stop growling back at him tho- you have come down to his level making hin feel like you are equal- no no!
