Smooth Collie Undercoat Shedding!

Question
I have a 1 and 1/2 year old smooth collie and it is spring and she is shedding her undercoat.  I have been using the "Furminator" which pulls a lot of it out, but it is so bad!  I can brush her forever and still get hair out.  I will vacuum and she'll walk across the rug and leave more!  Do you know how long generally it takes them to shed their undercoat due to weather changes?

Answer
You will need to bath the dog in very warm water to release the hair from the shaft. The warm water relaxes the shaft and releases coat that is almost ready to come out. A warm blow dryer will also release coat. (Be prepared to have a mess in the house.) Wear protective eye wear and possibly the face masks that they sell for lawn mowing allergies. It helps not to breath in the mounds of hair. Brush the coat as you are drying. Dry in sections starting at the base of the hocks (back ankle) and move up and forward. This is very time consuming so let the dog rest at 15 to 20min intervals.
Your dog is also still possibly loosing some puppy coat. Or she may be shedding some coat do to sedation from a possible medical procedure. I do not know all the specifics of the shedding problem but hopefully by June the most should be gone. I know that seems like along time but if the dog is an in and out dog the coat will adjust to the different temps.
Hope I have helped in some way. Good luck and remember take your time pulling coat, grooming is like a special date between to great friends.
