Answer
Congratulations on your puppy, Lucy. Yorkies are so cute, they can be little rascals at times!
You need to get her to the groomer as soon as possible. She needs to learn that the groomer is NOT the vet, and that the process is fun and simple.  If you wait until her hair is matted, or she decides that she doesn't' want to be kissed and held and loved while getting her hair done, she will be hard to do her whole life.
Doing puppies later makes them harder to do because they are more set in their ways.  Vets visits are more frequent and they begin to resent being put on a table by strangers.
Most dogs should be groomed after their second set of shots. She has probably  had those by now.

You can have her hair cut, or combed and left long or in between, it doesn't matter which style you choose, just get her there so she likes it and is comfortable with it.

Cutting her hair will not change it at all.  You can always let it grow back.  If she is knotted, it would be best to let the groomer cut her shorter, so the visit is not as tedious as picking out all the knots would be.
Enjoy and have them put alittle bow in her head!
