Question
what would you call a maltese haircut that isnt short with rounded face, but has the longer ears and topknot, but the rest of the body is semi short..not real conformed to body shape, still a little longish?  does it have a name to request it from a groomer?  i do NOT want that teddy bear style!  nor do i want a poodle look.

Answer
Hello BJ.
Depending on the length, which is hard to determine what length you want, I would say either a #4 strip or a 1/2" full body scissor.
The 1/2 inch full body scissor will leave the hair about 1 inch long. If thats what you are looking for tell the  groomer this. "I want a 1/2 inch full body scissor. I want the face round, but just trim a bit off of the ears because I want them left long, and could you please leave the topknot a bit longer (explain how long you want it)." then explain what you want done with the tail as well. If the 1/2 inch full body scissor seems to long for you, ask for a #4 blade on the body. I hope this helps you out. Good luck to you. If you are uncertain that you will be getting the right groom, ask the groomer to repeat back to you what exactly he/she will be doing on your dog. make sure you and the groomer have clear communication on what is to be done! Good luck!
