Question
My dog had to have his jaw wired after he was attacked by a larger dog. I have noticed since he came home he is losing alot of hair. He is a 7 mth.old (rat terrier, jack russel mix) he usually sheds but not this bad.Any type of special shampoo or what? Bullet needs your help. Thanks!!!

Answer
Hello,
I am very sorry to hear about Bullets sitiuation. Unfortunately there isn't a shampoo that can correct this problem. This sounds to me like he has been thru some stressfull situations in his little 7 months of life.
Being so young he is lucky in a sense. His hair should grow back once he is fully recovered from his injuries, you should start to see new hair growth soon enough.
You can always take him to your vet for a second opinion
but I am sure he will be just fine.
Going thru something of that nature at such a young age will cause PTSD Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Just like in
humans. And funny enough people lose hair from this also.
But once the worst is over and the body calms down and begins to regain normal daily routines it dissapates.
It might take some time depending on his ability to bounce back as they say but he will regrow the hair he has lost.
The best thing you can do for him is lots of exercise,
love , and good nutrition. If possible get him to drink more water than usual , this will aide in his speedy recovery.
I hope I have been of some help or at least peace of mind. If you have any questions in the future please stop in and ask .
Doreen
PS. I almost forgot, You will have some permanent hair loss
on the surgical scars but it shouldn't be that noticable.
