Dog grooming school

Question
I have found a groomer who teaches on a one-on-one basis, with much of the book/curriculum work done at home, hands-on with her in the shop. She says once I complete the book work and tests, I will receive a certificate.  How do I find out if she is indeed certified to teach?  Is there any organization which can refer me to a "licensed" or "approved" instructor?  I read an expert answer in another post which recommended checking out the groomer to make sure he/she is qualified and that they would teach correct skills.  If I don't know the "correct" ways, how would I know if the teaching is correct?  Basically, how does one investigate a groomer for qualifications and sound teaching?
Thanks,

Answer
Hi Nancy-
gooooooooood question! First there is no such thing as licensing when it comes to groomers. A certificate is worth the paper it is written on. An establishment may be accredited to teach but frankly you can buy all the books and videos yourself. What is good is that she has the clientele to work on. But do they agree to let a student work on their dog??? Usually when a groomer takes on an apprentice they pay the apprentice which is pretty much  what you are here.

and look up all the posts on becoming a groomer. There has to be a 4 dozen of these threads.
Unless you know this person reaaaaallllly well (then I still would be careful) Be careful who you give your money to, if you are really hot to trot on this apply at a big box store- they say they have their own schools and you get paid to boot. Otherwise pick a real dog grooming school and go about it the right way. If you are not near one again look at the site I mentioned and they have some good advertisers on there.
good luck
