Question
I have a small dog she has a lot of hair and hair in her face that is getting knots, everytime I try to cut her hair she won't go for it, she starts to growl and she doesn't let nothing or anyone get near her I tried giving her treats and she just won't go for it... what can you advise on approaching this?

Thank you,

Randy.

Answer
Randy, are you giving her/him treats for misbehavior? You have to overcome the master effect first. Trust is the number one thing dogs need from us. First try getting something that vibrates such as your electric razor. Don't try and trim the hair but get the dog used to the noise and feeling. Pet and reassure the pet while in your lap that it's okay to be scared, this may take time. But once you have mastered this, move on to clipping nails, brushing, combing from the bottom forward. No more than 15min. a day. Move forward bit by bit. Be patient and remember the mats didn't get there in one day. Enjoy your time together it will be worth it in the end.
