Question
I have just hand stripped a Norwich Terrier pet dog.I used the finger and thumb method and removed all the long hair from the body leaving a lighter coloured soft short coat. Should i have removed this much hair as the dog no longer looks like a wire coated breed? Also it didnt like being stripped towards the back legs so I used thinning scissors to assist .

Answer
The first time you hand strip a terrier the pattern or saddle will be near bald. The hair will grow in coarse and soft. You will pull out the soft hair only leaving the coarse hair. In time the dogs skin will grow accustom to the irritation kind of like plucking eyebrows. It is painful but the result is spectacular. Most pet people do not hand strip their dogs, they opt for a clipped effect but is correct for the standard of the bred to card or hand strip. Try not to go too low on the pattern into the flank area where any animal is extremely sensitive.
