Question
my boy smells really bad, even a day after a bath. he is an inside dog, English bull terrier, 2 yrs old, neutered. what are the chances he has some kind of anal gland problem, and how can i tell?    ro'c

Answer
There is a good chance it is the anal glads, but seriously it is easy to tell over the internet.
The odor will come from under the tail, your dog may lick and scoot his behind as well.
Sometimes there is a liquid discharge from the anal opening, which has a horrible odor.
The only thing you can do at this time is to determine WHERE the odor is coming from; mouth, face, feet, eyes, ears, anal area, under the neck, are all places to check and the only way to do this is to get your nose right on him and see.
A professional groomer can bathe him and express the glands more inexpensively than the vet does, and you will know if you have a problem.
Some groomers will do the glads while you wait, and charge you a small fee for this service. They can tell you if you need a vet visit or not.
Good luck
