Shih Tzu with skin problems

Question
Hi. We have a 5 yr old male Shih Tzu that started having skin problems about 6 months ago. We can bath him and the next day he stinks and feels oily. He is constantly biting and scratching and other than the marks he is inflicting on himself we cannot see anything on him. He is on Comfortis and fleas are not a problem. We have purchased anti inch spays both from Wal-Mart and from our groomer and have also tried the expensive shampoos that kill yeast and nothing seems to be working. We took him to the vet and he had to be put on antibiotics for 14 days for a urinary tract infection and she said the antibiotics may clear up the skin problem too. That was a month ago and the problem still exist. We keep him cut in a shorter teddy bear cut or slightly longer depending on how often we can get to the groomers. Any suggestions on this? I love my dog very much but he stinks so bad and feels so oily I'm going to have to resort to a nose plug and gloves just to pet him. Thank you so very much..

Answer
Hi there!

Oh, poor you and your doggie!  There is nothing worse than what you are describing, it's a type of skin problem that is commenly called 'Hot Spot', though your baby may not have them yet, he's well on his way to them. The smell and oily coat is part of it.

The only thing I can tell you is to try www.ravenpetproducts.com they have a hot spot control kit that really WORKS.  It's affordable too, a small dog such as yours will only need one kit to have relief.

Good luck and let me know how it works out!
