Question
I have a 4 year old, female, English Pointer who sheds A LOT!!!  She (who has white hair) likes to sneak up on the furniture (which is black) while I'm at work and so when I come back, it looks like someone gave her a haircut on my couch.  Are there any solutions available for reducing shedding?  Brushing her works to some degree, but it seems as though I can never keep up with it.

Answer
Hello Tommy!
You could take your dog to the groomers for just a good bath and brush regularily. They will use a high velocity blow dryer on your dog which will help to blow out lots of that loose hair. And then also regular brushings at home using a curry brush (a rubber brush) will help alot as well.
Sometimes diet can effect how much or little a dog will shed. Make sure you are feeding your dog a high premium food (you can talk to your vet about a good food for shedding). I have also heard that adding oils (such as flaxseed oil) to your dogs food can help with the skin and coat. I have never tried that myself though.
here is a link to show you what a curry brush looks like:

the zoom groom is by far my favorite rubber brush!
unfortunately though, a dog who sheds will always shed, and there is no way to get rid of all the hair, but their is ways to minimize it as much as possible!
Good Luck to you!
