Question
we have a 7lb male toy poodle and my neighbor has a lllb poodle we want to mate them  but my toy is to short what do we do

Answer
Hello Carol,
The best resolution to this problem is to get something for your male to stand on so that he can reach the female (such as a long cardboard box).  You might have to help position the female in front of the box so that the male is able to reach her, but as long as she doesn't mind you helping, the male should be able to have a sucessful breeding.

Some dogs are not used to "hand breeding" so if your dogs are uncomfortable with the idea of you helping, you can try to get him to ejaculate in a dixie cup and use a syringe to inject his sperm into the female.  This can be done by gently squeezing his penis while he is excited (make sure the female is present and let him try to mount her first), or by pushing the sheath up and over his penis exposing the red part.

If this doesn't work and you really want a breeding between these two dogs, you might want to contact your Vet for further information and other options.

I hope this has helped you some.  If you have other questions/concerns/comments about this, or other Poodle questions in general, please feel free to ask.
