Question
Hi. Is this normal for a silver female and an apricot male standard parents to be born a few silvers, a few cream and few black puppies? Will a black puppy change his color to silver? Any info re colors would help. Thanks

Answer
Hello Gena,
It is normal for Silvers, Blacks and Creams to be born into the same litter.  Alot of breeders will use Cream or White to pair with a Silver or Black.  You will usually get Black, Cream, Blue and Silver out of this mix.  A Silver puppy is born Black and will turn Silver as it ages.  You can start to see Silver in the toes and around the face at about 8 weeks of age.

Color genetics are very hard to determine though so sometimes its just "See what you get".
You can try to type in Color Genetics in the Poodle into your browser, but all I came up with was a bunch of technical jargan that I never have been able to understand.

I hope this helps you some.  If you have other questions for me, please feel free to ask.
