Question
Our you sure we should ween the puppies from there Mother's milk before they have teeth?  We checked last night, and no teeth have erupted yet.  Also, I read some other solutions to the constipation in puppies, and I kept seeing mineral oil.  Do you recommend mineral oil for there constipation?

-----Question-----
Our toy poodle had 6 puppies.  The puppies are now 4 weeks old.  They are still being fed by the mother.  Most of the puppies seem to be constipated.  We have had a little luck with wiping a warm cloth under there tails.  When they did go, the stool seemed to have a white residue at the beginning.  The vet doesn't seem interested in the stool at all.  He insists that we bring them in.  Any idea what the white stuff could be and any suggestions as to what we can give them so they are not constipated?

Does you female have constant access to as much water as she wants?  Sounds like she isnt getting enough.  You need to start feeding and watering the puppies now and wean them from mom.  Mom could already be drying up.  Give them hard puppy kibble and pour hot water over the dry kibble.  This will soften the kibble and give them water at the same time.  Make sure to keep the bowl full at all times.  If the kibble dries up put more water.  If you have a puppy feeding bowl I would give them clear plain water also.  A licky water bottle is also good and the puppies can not get into the water and get yucky.  The white stuff is just part of moms milk.  You shouldnt be seeing it as much as you are but as the puppies are not getting enough fluid that is why.  If after the water they still seem constipated then try a little punpkin puree.  Like the kind you use for pumpkin pie.  Just make sure its low in sugar.  Start out by giving them a teaspoon each.  Then increase it a bit if you need too but you probably wont have to.

Answer
What I am telling you are things that I have done over my many years of breeding.  It is what has worked and what I stick by. I wean my litters by 4-5 weeks.  When you start getting constipation in puppies then its telling you that mom isnt getting enough fluids and her body is depleted and its time to wean.  But you do whatever you feel comfortable with.  Mineral oil is fine but a little harder on the system.  You wont want to give very much of it.  Before I did anything though I would just put some water in and get them to drink it as that is really what they need, just like I said above.
