Poodle Eye Color

Question
I have a one-year-old blue toy poodle and her eyes are not a distinct color. They are kind of "milky" looking, although at the rims they appear to be a clear brown.  When does the true eye color finish developing?  Or are her eyes always going to be kind of "no color"?

Answer
Hello Charley,
Most Blue Poodles will have a dark colored eye due to the fact that the Blue color is so close to Black.  Sometimes though a Blue colored Poodle will develop more of a Amber colored eye.  From your description, it sounds as if your dog has cloudy eyes.  This could be more of a medical issue rather than eye color.  If you want, you can send me a picture of her eyes and I can take a look at it.  You can send it to my e-mail at MsTopkdog@yahoo.com
You might also have a Vet look at her eyes to see what they think.  She could have cataracts or cloudy corneas, and cloudyness can also be a sign of glaucoma.  Here are a couple websites for you about cloudy eyes.  http://www.petplace.com/dogs/cloudy-eye-in-dogs/page1.aspx    http://www.terrificpets.com/articles/10271365.asp

I hope this helps you some.  If you have other questions for me, or wish to send me a photo of your dogs eyes, please feel free to do so.
