Question
I have bred my standard poodle cream bitch with a blue  standard poodle. He is only 11 months and turning blue now. His face was blue at 8 weeks. I have 3 puppies and need to know what color they are to sell them. I have clipped their faces, tails, feet and they show no sign of blue. They do have a few white hairs between their toes on the bottom side.  In the sunlight, where the hair is very long and has big curls I sort of see a hint of brown, it is very faint and really can only see it in one puppy. When will the face turn silver? I dont want to tell future owners the wrong color. I have read that the skin will look blue. Their skin is very blue. Thanks,Karen

Hello Karen,
Most Silver puppies will start to get their color around 8 weeks or so, though I have seen the starting of the Silver color as early as 5 weeks near the base of the coat, near the skin.
When you see Brown in the coat, it usually means that your dog will be Blue.  The puppy that has the brown tint will most likely be darker black than the other puppies.
I would have a better idea of what colors the puppies will be by knowing what is in the Cream colored females background.  Blue dogs are able to throw all the colors, so the puppies colors should be determined more by your females background than his.  Though knowing what is in his background will be helpful also.  I would assume that since he is Blue, that he probably has Silver or other Blues behind him.  Your female could have Silver, White or Cream behind her.
This would cause the puppies to either be Silver or Blue.
If you would like to send me pictures of the puppies (be sure to part the hair so I can see down to the skin) and info on the backgrounds of the parents, I can give you a better idea of what the colors of the puppies will be.

I hope this helps you some.  If you have other questions about this, or other Poodle questions in general, please feel free to ask me.
