Question
KIM thank you for responding so quickly about how much to feed a 8 week old puppy. COULD YOU ALSO TELL ME HOW MUCH SLEEP SHOULD THIS 8 WEEK OLD PUP BE GETTING? HE IS QUITE RAMBUNCTIOUS IN THE MORNING BUT GETS TIRED BY AFTERNOON AND WANTS TO LAY AROUND  AND SLEEP. IS THIS A PROBLEM.? I AM AFRAID HE WON'T SLEEP AT NIGHT.  BONNIE DIXON

Answer
Hello Bonnie,
A puppys sleeping pattern depends on the activity he gets during the day.
Most puppies will sleep when they are tired.  I would say every 3-4 hours or so you can put him in his crate to sleep.
If he doesn't seem tired when you put him in his crate, the next time you go to put him in his crate, do something with him to tire him out first.  Play ball with him, run around with him, or take time to teach him a trick or two.
Be sure to take him potty before going to his crate.

As far as housetraining goes, be sure to take him to the same place every time and praise him when he goes.  I would say to take him out every 2 hours at first.
When he potties on the floor, clean it up with paper towels and take them outside to where you want him to go potty.  He will smell that he has pottied on the paper towels, and will be more inclined to potty where the pads are.
Also, know that puppies get their full bladder control at 12 weeks, so expect accidents until your puppy gets about a month older.

You and your puppy sound like you are doing great.  If you have any other questions, go ahead and let me know.
Kim
